Volkswagen introduces the new CrossBlue in Detroit

It seems that the Volkswagen Touareg just wasn’t big enough for some people. This prompted the German brand to unveil a new model just for them at the Detroit Auto Show: the CrossBlue, which was designed solely for the American and Canadian markets.

The CrossBlue is equipped with one of the most advanced plug-in hybrid systems out there: diesel engine, two electric motors (one in front and another in back), dual-clutch automatic transmission and a “propshaft by wire” system. When the lithium-ion batteries are charged, this vehicle can cover 22.5 km in electric mode only. The CrossBlue comes with all-wheel drive.

Depending on the configuration you choose, the CrossBlue comes with either six or seven seats, in addition to plenty of luxury with all the technologies you could imagine – and more! And even though it’s still a concept vehicle, its appearance is not far off from the production model that is set to be unveiled shortly.

Chances are that this up-and-coming SUV will be assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, along with the Passat sedan, offered exclusively for the North American markets.

This vehicle is the result of a sound business decision that aims to justify the expense of building the American assembly plant.
