Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid To Debut At New York International Auto Show

The Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid will be the first battery-assisted vehicle from the Japanese brand.

Subaru will be publicly unveiling its very first hybrid vehicle at next week's New York International Auto Show. The Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid will feature a gasoline / electric drivetrain that should provide better fuel economy than is offered by the already-respectable base model.

There are still no official details about the XV Crosstrek Hybrid's mechanicals, which is understandable given that the vehicle will be the star of Subaru's presentation in New York. What has been made public - aside from a single publicity shot of Crosstrek that looks very much like the stock version - is that the hybrid system is based Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive. This partnership is a familiar one, given that Subaru and Toyota recently collaborated on the production of the Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S sports coupe.

It does seem likely that, given the use of the XV Crosstrek crossover as its platform, the Subaru Hybrid will offer standard all-wheel drive.
