The next-generation Dodge Challenger will offer a substantial power boost.

The Dodge Challenger is getting a new lease on life - and potentially a brand new drivetain to match.  AllPar is reporting that the 2014 Dodge Challenger will be moving to a fresh platform, and will also gain substantial interior updates as well as revised sheet metal that should help modernize the coupe while staying true to its retro roots.  The LA platform that the Challenger will use - also rumoured to underpin the upcoming Barracuda - is a smaller version of LY platform that is used for the Charger/300 full-size sedan twins.

More exciting than a fresh look for the Challenger is the power plant that will fill its generous engine bay.  The new Hemi V-8, dubbed the 'Hellcat,' will displace 6.2-litres and will make use of a supercharger to produce up to 640 horsepower.  An eight-speed automatic transmission will also be in the cards for the muscle coupe, and sources say that the car will continue to offer 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter versions of the eight-cylinder Hemi mill.
