Ford, Toyota End Partnership to Develop Hybrid Trucks

Ford and Toyota will not pursue hybrid technology for pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles together, according to a report from Reuters.

The duo has been studying the feasibility of such a partnership since 2011. Instead, Ford plans to develop its own hybrid drive system for use by the end of the decade.

"Both parties brought some significant insight to their portion of the project," Raj Nair, head of global product development, said in an interview. Both parties were "pleased with the ability to progress separately."

Ford also said that while the hybrid partnership has ended, the two will still work together on developing phone, navigation and entertainment systems.
