Daihatsu D-R Concept: Simple Roadster
Last year during the Indonesian Motor Show, Japanese manufacturer Daihatsu unveiled the D-R concept - an event that went mostly unnoticed.
Because of the lackluster publicity, the Toyota-owned brand is re-offending it again with another unveiling at the International Motor Show in Tokyo.
The Daihatsu D-R Concept is a micro roadster and represents the arrival of a successor to Copen on the Japanese market. That roadster made its debut in Japan in 2002.
Although the D-R concept is regarded as a kei car - a car that cannot travel on main roads in Japan - it will be much different for the production model in development.
Under the hood of Daihatsu D-R Concept, there is only the option of a four-cylinder 660 cc engine.

Since Toyota holds more than 51% of Daihatsu, it does seem reasonable to assume that the next version of the Daihatsu Copen could be offered to us under a Scion emblem.
