Cadillac has just begun delivery of its extended-range electric ELR model across North America.

The car is assembled at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

This attractive coupe is powered by an electric motor and has much greater all-electric range than the Chevrolet Volt, its lower-end counterpart. According to the manufacturer, the Cadillac ELR offers a total range equivalent to that of a conventional vehicle at 408 kilometres. Cadillac’s asking price for the ELR is about $76,000 USD which is more than twice the price of the Volt.

Originally debuted at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit as the Cadillac Converj concept, GM’s financial woes cast a doubt on if the vehicle would ever make it into production. The company put it to rest when the official production announcement was made in November 2012.
