We already know that the second generation Audi R8 will use the same platform as the brand new Lamborghini Huracan but not much else has come to light.

Audi fans will be pleased to hear that Audi tech boss Ulrich Hackenberg divulged a few tidbits of information at the Geneva Motor Show.

The 2016 R8 will have a wider stance with a longer wheelbase compared to the Huracan. Both the V8 and V10 option will remain and Audi is envisioning a turbo V8 for some markets that have stricter regulations on emissions or engine size. All-wheel drive will be standard.

Unfortunately it looks as if the manual transmission will meet its maker and the car will only come with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Sharing a platform with the Huracan will also benefit the R8 in the form of an innovative rear firewall and centre carbon fibre tunnel.

The next generation R8 will come out some time in 2015 but Audi is mum on a timeline. We could perhaps get a glimpse of something by the end of this year but for now we’ll have to wait and see.

Audi is very close to resurrecting the R8 e-tron which would have a range of 450km. A final decision is due within weeks.
