The Last Corvette is Finally Freed From the Rubble

On February 12, during a cold night, a sinkhole opened in the Corvette Museum, swallowing eight irreplaceable vehicles.

The casualty list is as follow:

- A 1962

- A 1984 PPG Pace Car

- The millionth Corvette produced (1992)

- A 40th anniversary Ruby Red Special Edition (1993)

- A 1993 ZR1 Spyder

- A Z06 Mallet Hammer (2001)

- The 1,500,000th Corvette produced (2009)

- And a ZR1 Blue Devil (2009)

While the first cars were relatively easy to bring back to stable ground, the deeper the rescue team went, the harder it became to fish out those Corvettes, and the more damaged they were. On April 9, the last vehicle, the 2001 Mallet Hammer, was pulled out of the sinkhole.

It’s a wreck.

While General Motors promised to restore each Corvette when the disaster struck, it can be safely assumed that they will keep this one as-is.

Because let’s face it, regardless of the value of this car, it would be pretty much impossible to get this one back on the road.
