New 5-Year Plan for Chrysler, and the end of SRT

It's the end of SRT as a standalone brand.

Five years ago, the Italian conglomerate Fiat bought Chrysler back from the clutches of Cerberus Capital Management. Fiat's CEO, Sergio Marchionne, revealed his 5-years plan for the future of its brands shortly after. He wanted to clean up the American lineup, and develop new technologies to keep Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep relevant.

Fast-forward to 2014, and it is now time for another plan (the last one was very successful, since it pretty much saved Chrysler!). FCA's conference is currently ongoing in Auburn Hill. Announcing each brand's market focus, it foresees the future up to 2019.

We currently have access to the presentation's .PDF. One of the major points is the end of the SRT brand as a standalone offering. The Viper will return to the Dodge lineup, and every other SRT model (Charger, Challenger, Grand Cherokee, 300) will remain as high-performance variants.

Alfa Romeo will return to its roots. While the brand produced various award-winning vehicles, they were not representative of Alfa's racing DNA. As such, the MiTo and the Giulietta will be axed, and a brand-new lineup of cars will be launched. This means that the era of front-wheel drive Alfa Romeos is officially over!

Other details of this presentation will come up shortly, but the future looks very promising for Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Alfa Romeo/Fiat/Maserati/Ferrari!
