Recalls: Fuel Problems for the Mazda6 (and GM's HD Trucks)

If you own a 2014 Mazda6 built between October 25, 2012 and May 9, 2013, your car came out of the factory with a peculiar feature: you can put too much fuel in it!

A manufacturing defect was found in the filling tube. The capacity of the fuel tank is 62 liters, but if you put more fuel in it, it will fill up the charcoal canister, and drip out the venting tube. And as you know, fuel dripping out in the open is not exactly safe…

Mazda will inspect the 19,000 vehicles affected by this, they will install an adapter on the shutoff valve of the fuel tank, and they will also check the charcoal canister. If it is found that fuel leaked inside, they will replace it free of charge.

I can almost hear the owners of big American trucks laughing about the quality of small Japanese cars. Well, I have bad news for you too, guys: on the 51 2015 GM HD trucks sold so far with a diesel engine (GMC and Chevrolet), a transfer tube between the fuel tanks has been improperly torqued. This results in fuel leaking. To correct the problem, GM will send a letter to owners and have them go to a dealership to have those bolts tightened.
