Among the many cars sitting on the lawn in Monterey, a very special Tesla Model S was the center of attention: named Foursixteen, it was specially modified by Saleen, an American tuning company. This electric sedan is one of the first to receive a full upgrade program from an established source.

The most obvious changes are in the bodywork. While we saw some early design sketches, we can now confirm that the car features new front and rear bumpers, a unique hood, 21 inch wheels and a spoiler on the trunk.

But the modifications are not only cosmetic. The Foursixteen also gets an updated cooling system designed to cope with heavy track abuse, a firmer suspension (customers can also choose to install an optional adjustable suspension), sway bars, high performance brakes and new tires to send all the power to the ground.

Speaking of power, the figures mentioned by Saleen are exactly the same as the standard Model S: 416 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. However, the tuning shop tinkered with the car’s electronics (sharper throttle response and different traction control and torque vectoring settings) to give it a more responsive drive on a track.

The Foursixteen’s interior has also been upgraded with seats draped in leather and alcantara. The door panels and dashboard are made of the same materials.

Buyers can add a few options, like a locked differential and a final drive ratio of 11.39:1, which will certainly help acceleration. This Saleen can be yours for $152,000 (including the base Model S). However, unlike every other tuned vehicle, this one is eligible for a government rebate.

It’s still a green car, regardless of its performance!
