After letting us speculate on the next super-Vette's actual performance figures for a while, Chevrolet finally let us know what to expect from the Z06 if you decide to push it to its limits.

With its supercharged LS4 engine, the Corvette Z06 produces 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, so we had an idea that it would be quick. With its 8-speed automatic gearbox that can supposedly change gears faster than a twin-clutch unit, it can launch from 0 to 100 km/h in a staggering 2.95 seconds and run past the quarter-mile mark in 10.95 seconds at more than 204 km/h. If you choose to buy your Z06 with a manual transmission, you will lose a few tenths: 0-100 km/h now takes 3.2 seconds, and the quarter mile is dispatched in 11.2.

Outright speed is one thing, but it doesn’t mean much without control: GM points out that this Z06 can generate 1.2G of lateral acceleration, while the standard Corvette can’t manage more than 1.13. Equipped with the optional Z06 performance package, the car can actually lap GM’s proving ground at Milford faster than the last ZR1 ever could.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 will be available at the start of 2015 with a starting price of $78,995 US.
