The First Mustang Shelby GT350R Sold At Barrett-Jackson
While the new Ford Mustang GT350R was just unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, the manufacturer nonetheless decided to sell the first one for a good cause. In partnership with Barrett-Jackson (the renowned American auction house), the very first GT350R to roll off the assembly line was put up for sale in front of hundreds of potential buyers.
After a bidding war started at $150,000, the winner finally outbid everyone else with a final bid of $1,000,000. All proceeds of this sale will go to a juvenile diabetes research fund.
It’s important to note that the Mustang seen in the above pictures is not the car that this lucky bidder will receive. The car shown is only a pre-production unit, since the actual vehicle has not been built yet.
If you want one of these super-Mustangs, but don’t want to pay such a steep premium for the privilege of driving the very first one, you will be able to order one from your local Ford dealership in the coming weeks; deliveries should start next spring.
GM also participated in the auction, giving away the very first Z06 convertible, which sold for $800,000 and the Cadillac CTS-V sedan with serial number 001, which found a buyer at $170,000. Both vehicles' proceeds will be sent to charities.
