Mercedes-Benz Is Building A New Off-Roader

Do you remember the huge 6x6 G-Class that Mercedes-Benz has been selling for the last 2 years? The monster off-roader can cross any terrain with ease, and is the current fashion accessory for the rich and famous.

However, since its production is limited to 20 or 30 units each year, a lot of millionaires won't be able to score one. Mercedes-Benz, in an effort to satisfy those potential clients, has decided to launch a more civilized version of the 6x6; this one will only have four wheels, but it's still almost as obnoxious as its bigger brother.

Here's a quick recap: Mercedes-Benz starts with a ''regular'' G-Class, which is based on a military vehicle designed in the seventies. They then offer a 6-wheeled version for their wealthy customers. Finally, they launch a four-wheeled model based on their six-wheeler.

Still following?

Anyway, the first image of the new G500 4x4 is out now. First of all, we see that the G-Wagen sits much higher than a regular model, now features aggressive tires and larger fenders. The engine of choice is a 422-horsepower V8, which will be enough to climb any hill.

Prices have yet to be announced, but this G-Class will probably be sold for less than $640,000, which is what the 6x6 is worth.

We will see the G500 4x4 for the first time at the Geneva International Motor Show.
