A Recall For The Honda Accord

Published on March 11, 2015 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

The Honda Accord is one of the most popular vehicles in its segment; this midsize sedan has been sold here for the last 40 years and has acquired a legion of fans. It’s also frequently exemplified when talking about Honda’s reliability.

Said reliability isn’t perfect, it turns out. Honda just issued a recall for a few 2014-2015 Accords and 2015 CR-Vs. The problem is supposedly an improperly-torqued connecting rod bolt, which could cause a loss of power or even some oil leaks.

Honda won’t take any chances with this recall. Instead of simply opening the engine and tightening the troublesome bolt, they will change the short block in each of the affected vehicles. This means a new engine block filled with a new crankshaft, new pistons, new conrods…

While the number of affected vehicles is relatively small (only 137 vehicles will be recalled, according to our source), it’s still reassuring to see a manufacturer that is willing to repair everything the first time, instead of looking for the cheapest solution which could lead to more expensive problems down the line.
