Mercedes-Benz Will Build A Pickup Truck

While the German automaker Mercedes-Benz is known for its luxury sedans on our side of the ocean, they also build a large array of commercial vehicles; in addition to the Sprinter van which we know and love, they also build tractor-trailers and a midsize van, which will eventually be imported here as the Metris.

However, Mercedes-Benz recently realized that there was a market for a luxury midsize truck. To get their own slice of this seemingly lucrative segment, they decided to launch a midsize truck before 2020.

We don’t know anything else about this truck yet, except from the fact that it will be built by MB’s vans division and that it is intended to be sold in various international markets, like Australia, South America and South Africa.

Did you notice there was one important region missing?

That’s right; unless a big change is announced, we won’t get the upcoming Mercedes-Benz pickup truck. Why? The manufacturer hasn’t stated any reasons, but if I had to take a guess, I’d blame America’s infamous Chicken Tax, which slaps a 25% tax on any truck which isn’t built in the USA. You can blame the tax as the main reason why we also don’t get the Ford Ranger which is sold internationally.
