Another Volkswagen GTI For Vision GT

The Vision GT program was launched by Sony to allow stylists from each car manufacturer the opportunity to design a vehicle that represents the future of their brand, with the car being available to drive in Gran Turismo 6. So far, each manufacturer has submitted only one vehicle, but It seems that Volkswagen has decided to go against the trend; the German automaker just announced a second Vision GT prototype.

The new Vision GT is based on the sport compact Golf GTI. However, the fact that this digital racecar is unhindered by the laws of the market gave Volkswagen the opportunity to make it much more track-focused than the real GTI: its large carbon fibre bumpers are designed to keep it firmly planted on the ground, regardless of its speed. Its gaping maw hides a large radiator, useful for keeping the directly-injected, 503-horsepower turbocharged VR6 engine cool. Its DSG seven-speed gearbox is connected to a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, enabling the car to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

This second prototype is not only interesting for Gran Turismo aficionados, but it also offers an insight into what Volkswagen has in mind for the future, performance-wise. Who knows? We might hear an all-new VR6 powerplant soon…
