Porsche Trademarks GT5 Moniker; More Powerful Macan In The Works?
Automotive spies have unearthed some interesting facts; according to our sources, Porsche has just trademarked the GT5 name.
This was enough to send the rumour mill spinning.
At Porsche, the GT moniker followed by a number typically denotes a high-performance version (911 GT3, Cayman GT4…). The GT5 name would then mean that a new Porsche model is about to gain a few horsepower.
Both of Porsche's coupes already have high-performance variants, so we are interested to see which of their other vehicles will get the new GT badge.
Their vehicle lineup leaves us with a few options regarding the GT5’s identity: either Porsche is currently working on a high-performance version of its latest SUV, the Macan, or it’s the brand’s sedan, the Panamera, that will receive the racecar treatment.
The theory of an atypical vehicle would make sense, because while the GT3 and GT4 names are closely related to the racing world, GT5 doesn’t really mean anything.
Porsche didn’t want to comment one way or another, simply stating that they wished to cover all angles in a very competitive market.
