BMW recently announced that they would present a unique homage at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The car was set to pay tribute to one of the brand’s most memorable vehicles, the BMW 3.0 CSL of the ’70s.

Here is the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage: from the get-go, it’s easy to recognize the iconic Batmobile styling (it earned its name from its wide body panels and huge rear wing), but it’s equally obvious that the car points toward the future. According to the brand’s stylists, the car harkens back to BMW’s roots, yet is an insight into what their future cars might look like.

While the 3.0 CSL used Plexiglas and aluminium, this homage features space-age technologies; its bodywork makes massive use of carbon fibre, and the whole vehicle is highly aerodynamic.

This concept isn’t destined for production, so the engine isn’t detailed in the press release, but we know that it has a gasoline engine (since the dash features a tachometer) and we expect that an electric drivetrain is also hidden underneath its bodywork.
