A Turbocharged Shelby: The GT EcoBoost
Typically, the Shelby name is associated with small cars (like the Cobra or the Mustang) fitted with enormous V8 engines; this recipe has been proven to work since the turn of the century.
American tuner Shelby just showed its newest product which, surprisingly, doesn't feature any sort of V8: here is the four-cylinder, turbocharged GT EcoBoost (and before you start writing that hate letter about how Shelby has lost its way, just remember that this isn't the first turbocharged Shelby; that would be the GLHS, based on the Dodge Omni).
The Mustang Shelby GT EcoBoost will receive a few cosmetic upgrades, like a complete body kit made of carbon fibre that includes a front splitter, side skirts, grille inserts, rear deflector and a hood. It will also receive stickers, 20-inch WELD Racing wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
The car comes with Ford's Performance Pack, which gives it impressive handling characteristics.
Under the hood, the Shelby GT EcoBoost receives a high-performance exhaust as well as a new computer tune. This gives the Mustang a total output of 335 horsepower.
The idea behind the Shelby EcoBoost is simple; for the first time; Shelby products will be offered in Europe, a market where smaller displacement offerings are hugely popular.
The Mustang Shelby GT EcoBoost will be launched at Goodwood Revival; if you want one, be prepared to sign a check for $23,995 USD... in addition to the price of your Mustang.
