It may not look like it, but the Ferrari F12 was launched way back in 2012, and in the high-performance world, that means it’s getting old. While its V12 develops 730 horsepower –and sings better than more than a few Italian Cantantis– the big coupe isn’t the latest in the fashion world anymore, having being passed by the Aston Martin Vulcan and the Lamborghini Aventador SV.

To propel its car back into the spotlight, Ferrari has launched a new-and-improved version of its grand tourer: the car you see in the above picture is the F12tdf.

The name might sound weird at first, but it has an interesting story: ‘’tdf’’ stands for Tour De France. This car has nothing to do with the bicycle race, mind you; it is a homage to an endurance race held during the '50s and '60s that Ferrari dominated.

The first thing we see when we look at the F12tdf is its unique styling. With an aggressive body kit, large fenders, a front splitter and a few carbon fibre accents, the F12tdf will easily stand out in a sea of inferior Ferraris.

Under the hood sits a highly-tuned V12. Displacing 6.3 litres, the engine boasts 769 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque. Maximum power arrives at 8,500 rpm, which means you will have to let the mill sing to get the most out of it.

With a sequential F1 gearbox, the F12tdf will get from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, and with a long-enough strip of tarmac it will reach 340 km/h.

Obviously, not everyone will get the opportunity to buy a Ferrari F12tdf. Production will be capped at 799 units, and we can already speculate that the price will be ludicrously high.
