The Buick Avenir Concept Won't Be Built

When Buick’s most recent concept – the Avenir – was shown for the first time, the automotive press pretty much fell in love with the car’s design. Not only is its styling a perfect mix of modern and retro, but the car gave us an insight into what Buick could do if they were tasked with creating a world-beating sedan and given the liberty to do so.

People were wondering if the Avenir would become a production vehicle. A representative of Buick gave us a definitive answer: you won’t have the opportunity to go to a dealership and buy one.

There are a few reasons for that, but the main issue lies with another GM brand. The manufacturer recently put a lot of money into developing and launching the Cadillac CT6, so it would be counterproductive to launch a car that would compete directly with it. This is sad, because it seemed like Buick had a viable business plan for an eventual full-size luxury sedan.

However, the Avenir hasn’t been created for nothing: its styling will live on in future Buick products like the convertible Cascada (which won’t be offered in Canada) and the all-new 2017 LaCrosse.
