Ford just announced a few changes for the 2017 F-150 pickup truck. Visually, the vehicle doesn't change, but it packs a surprise under the hood.

For 2017, the world's best-selling truck gets a new engine, the second generation of the twin-turbo, 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6. Thanks to various optimizations, it now develops 375 horsepower, 10 more compared to last year. Torque is also improved, rising from 420 to 470 pound-feet. That's enough to make this engine the torquiest in its segment, and for the first time, the engine with the most torque in a 1500 pickup isn't a V8 or even a diesel, but a six-cylinder fitted with a pair of turbos.

Under this mill sits another new upgrade: 2017 marks the first appearance of a 10-speed automatic gearbox in a production vehicle, which will be matched to the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6.
