Although the Toyota Prius hatchback was totally redesigned for the 2016 model year, the Prius c and Prius v soldier on unchanged for the time being.

The 2017 Toyota Prius v wagon (as we call it) or crossover (as Toyota calls it) is available in three trim levels. The base version starts at $28,875 before freight and delivery charges, and includes automatic climate control, an intelligent key system with pushbutton start, a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rearview camera, among other things.

The $30,880 Prius v with Luxury Package adds navigation, satellite radio, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery and heated front seats, while the $34,860 Prius v with Technology Package also benefits from lane departure alert and precollision warning systems, adaptive cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof.

The main advantage of the Prius v over the regular Prius is cargo space. Behind the rear seats is a volume of 971 litres, which can grow to 1906 litres by folding down the seatbacks.

Every 2017 Toyota Prius v is equipped with an Atkinson-cycle, 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission for a total combined output of 134 horsepower. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.5 L/100 km in the city and 6.0 L/100 km on the highway.
