Gadgets We Can No Longer Live Without

When the automobile was in its infancy, occupants had to sit on a wooden bench and were at the mercy of the elements. Over time, certain luxuries became indispensable: Cadillac’s electric starter rapidly became the norm, just like central heating, windshields and side doors.

New technologies arrived on the scene to change things once again and nowadays we’re spoiled by a myriad of gadgets that we can no longer live without.

For example, if you’ve ever spent even one winter at the wheel of a vehicle equipped with heated seats, you know that you can never go back. This feature can save you from a lot of discomfort—and can even be activated with the remote starter so the bench is warm when you arrive!

Satellite radio is another example. Those who only use the radio for background noise will not use SiriusXM, but if you’re a music lover, the impressive selection of genres and commercial-free programming will probably convince you to fork out the monthly fee.

Finally, how about GPS navigation? Gone are the days of lugging around a collection of paper maps in the glove compartment or stopping at gas stations to ask for directions. Now, all you have to do is enter the destination in the computer and let the faceless voice guide you.

It’s hard to say what the future holds, but if recent developments are any indication, voice recognition will become indispensable in the years to come. And with the arrival of increasingly complicated systems, being able to control everything with your voice will be very useful—assuming that it works properly, of course!
