Meet the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

If the outstanding Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray just won't cut but you don't want to go whole-hog on the Corvette Z06, there is another option.

Meet the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport, a car the automaker is calling "a pure expression of the car’s motorsports-bred pedigree."

Available in both coupe and convertible forms, the Grand Sport takes the bones of the Stingray and adds new chassis tuning, an upgraded cooling systems, and "performance technologies" borrowed from the Z06.

It also features specific front fender inserts, a Z06-style grille and wider rear fenders.

Magnetic ride control is standard, as is an electronic limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes at all four corners, while unique springs and stabilizer bars underpin the Corvette Grand Sport.

It rides on unique wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, while the available Z07 package adds Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Cup tires, carbon-ceramic brakes and a carbon fibre aero package.

An available Heritage package adds signature hash-mark fender graphics.

The Stingray's 6.2-litre LT1 V8, good for 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, powers the Corvette Grand Sport, and comes mated to the choice of a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but expect it to fall somewhere between the Stingray's starting price of $66,495 and the Z06's of $94,095.
