Tesla Model S P100D is Fastest Production Car in the World, Says Tesla

It was hardly a secret, but EV maker Tesla just confirmed the availability of the Model S P100D sedan as well as the Model X P100D utility vehicle.

Output hasn’t yet been announced, but thanks to the added torque of the 100-kWh battery pack—the P90D boasts a torque rating of 713 lb.-ft.—the Model S P100D is said to blast from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 2.5 seconds.

The Porsche 918 Spyder and the LaFerrari could do better, but they’re no longer in production. So the Tesla sedan is now the fastest production car on the planet. That’s pretty close to the 1500-hp Koenigsegg Regera, which is said to reach 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.8 seconds.

The Model S P100D also has an estimated range of 315 miles, or 504 km, which makes it the longest range production EV currently on the market.

The Tesla Model X P100D, despite its SUV body, can reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and travel an estimated distance of 289 miles (462 km) on a full charge.

Obviously, these performance numbers are achieved when the optional Ludicrous mode is activated.

Pricing hasn’t yet been announced for Canada, but it will obviously cost more than the $143,200 asked for a Model S P90D. Or $156,400 with the Ludicrous mode upgrade. The Model X P100D will cost more than the P90D and its $154,100 price tag—add $14,100 for the Ludicrous upgrade.

However, U.S. customers who have not yet taken delivery of the P90D they ordered can upgrade to a P100D for $10K, and existing P90D can swap the battery pack for $20K.
