Group B rally cars seem to be changing hands quite a lot recently. A few weeks ago, we reported that you could buy a beautiful Peugeot 205 T16 in homologation trim. Last year, there was also an Audi Quattro up for grabs.

Now, it’s time for a less successful competitor to hit the auction block: Bonhams Auctions will offer a wonderful MG Metro 6R4 from 1985, one of only two built. Contrary to the aforementioned Peugeot, this isn’t a street-legal road car; this is the real race car.

Back in the days, the Metro 6R4 didn’t have a lot of success: its Cosworth V6 mounted amidships wasn’t exactly reliable, breaking down multiple times and preventing the car from finishing most of the races. Its only award was a third place in a singular race in 1985. The MG then went on to break down in every single race the following year, and Group B was stopped in 1987.

After being bought by an Australian racer, the Metro 6R4 received another V6, this time from Nelson Engineering Service. With this more reliable powerplant, it won a few races, including a class win in the 1998 Targa Tasmania.

If you want to get your hands on this car, it will be auctioned during the Goodwood Revival. A buyer will likely pay between $170,000 and $205,000, according to the estimates.
