A More Affordable Shelby: Meet the GTE

Despite the fact that the Shelby Super Snake—not to be confused with the Shelby GT350 sold directly by Ford—is a dream machine, very few can actually afford one. With a base price of USD$50,000 on top of the price of a Ford Mustang GT, the Super Snake isn’t exactly cheap.

If you are looking for a more affordable Shelby, you can now check out the GTE.

Available on the Mustang EcoBoost and GT, the GTE adds some horsepower to the mix: the turbocharged four-cylinder engine has 355 horsepower, while the 5.0-litre V8 now boasts 456 ponies.

This power comes from a new exhaust and computer enhancements. The car also gets 19-inch wheels, a unique hood, a carbon fibre front splitter, a rear spoiler made of the same material as well as a slew of badges.

The kit starts at USD$17,999, adding to the price of the stock Ford Mustang. You can also add a slew of options to improve both performance and looks of the GTE, but you’re then getting closer and closer to the price of a Super Snake…
