2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia: The Car Guide is Driving it this Week!
Already on sale in Europe, the Alfa Romeo Giulia will hit American roads for the first time this month. The older crowd might object, stating that the Giulia nameplate was sold here in the Sixties, but since that was a long time ago, we’ll let bygones be bygones. Anyway, we’ll be heading to Napa, California, to get behind the wheel of the 2017 Giulia.
The sedan will be offered in two versions, regular and Quadrifoglio. The base version receives a turbocharged and intercooled, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. It develops 276 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, managed by an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels or, optionally, to all four wheels.
As for the Quadrifoglio, it’s more of a high-performance machine. This beast serves up 505 hp and 443 lb.-ft. of torque, and is more powerful than its natural enemies, the BMW M3 (425 hp, 406 lb.-ft.) and a hair above the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S (503 hp, 516 lb.-ft.). The Audi S4 and the Cadillac ATS-V are also rivals to the Quadrifoglio. The latter, by the way, means four-leaf clover. Only a ZF six-speed manual is offered in this version of the Giulia, which should definitely be less extreme than the Alfa Romeo 4C. However, we’ll probably discover some common genes here.
