2019 BMW M8 is a Go

After unveiling a doodle of the upcoming BMW 8 Series’ silhouette, followed by photos of the concept version, the German brand has released their usual slew of homemade spy shots of the high-performance M8.

This will be a brand-new nameplate for BMW, as the first-generation 8 Series, built from 1989 to 1999, did not spawn an M edition. Actually, a prototype of an M8 was built, but the automaker decided not to produce it.

Specific styling details are difficult to identify on the camouflaged 2019 BMW M8. However, the car will obviously boast larger air intakes on its front bumper, bigger brakes and quad exhaust pipes. Its powertrain hasn’t yet been officialised, but it’s a safe bet that it will get the new BMW M5’s twin-turbo, 4.4-litre V8 that will punch out more at least 600 horsepower. We can also expect the M5’s M xDrive all-wheel-drivetrain, which can be deactivated to keep the feel of a rear-drive car.

BMW also announced the development of a race car based on the high-performance version of the 8 Series Coupe. The M8 GTE will be unveiled later this year, and is scheduled to debut at the Daytona 24 Hours race in January 2018.
