2021 Jaguar F-PACE Update Includes High-tech Interior, Electrification

The Jaguar F-PACE is the best-selling model from the prestigious British automaker and it gets a major update for 2021, particularly in the cabin and under the hood.

But let’s start with the exterior, where the enlarged front grille features the heritage Jaguar logo-inspired ‘diamond’ detailing. It is flanked by slimmer LED quad headlights with “Double J Blade” daytime running light signatures, plus revised air intakes below.

In the rear, the taillights incorporate the Jaguar double chicane graphic, first previewed on the all-electric I-PACE crossover, while the hatch and bumper are sculpted a bit differently from the outgoing model. In R-Dynamic trim, some distinctive touches are added to the body. A Black Exterior Pack is also available for a racier look.

New Powertrain

The 2021 Jaguar F-PACE is available with a new turbocharged and supercharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine backed by a 48V mild hybrid system for a strong combination of performance and efficiency.

Output is rated at 335 horsepower in P340 trim and 395 horsepower in R-DYNAMIC P400 trim, the latter accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. An eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and rear-biased all-wheel drive system are standard across all F-PACE models. Furthermore, JaguarDrive Control offers selectable Comfort, Eco, Rain-Ice-Snow and Dynamic modes via a new rotary dial next to the all-new gear selector.

Also for 2021, the high-performance F-PACE SVR returns with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces 550 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque (+14). This uplift in torque delivers enhanced sportiness, allowing the F-PACE SVR to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in four seconds flat, or 0.3 second quicker than the outgoing model. The powertrain now features the same torque converter used in the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sedan to withstand the higher loads produced.

Future-proof Cabin

“Our goal for the interior of the new F-PACE was to push it to the next level of luxury and tactility with new technologies integrated seamlessly,” said Alister Whelan, Interior Design Director at Jaguar. “We have reviewed every element of the interior and applied a heightened attention to detail to make this a more refined and luxurious environment for both drivers and passengers.”

Taking centre stage is an 11.4-inch curved-glass HD touchscreen cased in magnesium alloy, which controls the Pivi Pro infotainment system offering a simplified menu structure (drivers can access or view common tasks from the home screen in two taps or less, the company assures). Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, of course, and so is the ability to connect two phones simultaneously via Bluetooth. Additionally, over-the-air updates will ensure the SUV’s electronics never become antiquated.

In front of the driver is a new, available 12.3-inch HD digital cluster with enhanced graphics and a configurable layout for full-screen navigation mapping with turn-by-turn instructions, digital dials, media, contact list or infotainment details. Full-screen 3D mapping is available with additional overlays for elements ranging from turn-by-turn instructions to compass bearings and places of interest. The latest optional head-up display technology can be had, as well.

The rest of the interior accentuates the modern feel of the new F-PACE. We’ve mentioned the redesigned shifter and the drive mode selector, but take a look at the inspired, high-contrast layout with numerous aluminum or open-pore wood inserts. The seats feature wider cushioning, massage functions and enhanced coverage of the heated and cooling areas. Soft-touch materials have been used more extensively and a set of ‘Est.1935 Jaguar Coventry’ upholstery tags highlight the brand’s heritage.

More Content and Refinement

Other goodies in the 2021 Jaguar F-PACE include new 10-colour ambient lighting and Active Road Noise Cancellation technology—a Jaguar first—which constantly monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by occupants.

Greater convenience comes standard, too. Heated seats, keyless entry and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system can now be found on all F-PACE models. Same thing for the second-generation wearable Activity Key, which can be used to lock, unlock and start the vehicle without the need for the conventional key fob to be present in the vehicle. Optionally, cabin Air Ionization improves interior air quality at the push of the “Purify” button.

And let’s not forget about the host of advanced safety and driver assistance features such as the newly available Clear Exit Monitor, which alerts both front and rear occupants to the presence of an approaching car or cyclist when exiting the vehicle.

Pricing for the 2021 Jaguar F-PACE starts at $60,350 (F-PACE SVR: $96,250). Orders are now accepted in Canada.
