Acura has finally announced pricing for the all-new 2021 TLX Type S, the high-performance version of its fully redesigned compact sedan.

Slated to arrive in Canadian dealerships in mid-June, the car will start at $59,500 plus freight and PDI of $2,375.

It’s a fairly big step up from the base TLX, which carries an MSRP of $44,105, but clearly customers don’t mind. Acura Canada pre-sold its 119-unit online allotment in a mere eight hours this past winter. A total of just 240 units will be available across the entire country.

The 2021 Acura TLX Type S boasts an all-new, turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that delivers 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque via a specially tuned 10-speed automatic transmission, along with Acura’s excellent Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. A double-wishbone front suspension with adaptive dampers, four-piston Brembo brake callipers up front and 255-series Pirelli P-Zero summer tires are also part of the package.

While announcing the price, Acura gave us the fuel consumption ratings and a few reminders about equipment. The Type S achieves 12.3 L/100 km in the city and 9.8 L/100 km on the highway, for an average rating of 11.2 L/100 km. The AcuraWatch suite of safety and driver assistance technologies comes standard, along with the world’s first front passenger airbag designed to reduce head rotation in a collision.

Other goodies includes 16-way driver and front passenger sport seats with power adjustable bolsters, Milano leather with Ultrasuede inserts, a 17-speaker ELS STUDIO 3D premium audio system and a 10.2-inch infotainment display.

With the Audi S4, BMW M340i xDrive, Genesis G70 3.3 Sport and more, the choice is not an easy one for compact sports sedan enthusiasts.
