CD Player Now Completely Gone in GM Passenger Vehicles

You can’t stop progress, especially when it comes to in-car technology, which is evolving at a stunning pace.

In an era of sophisticated multimedia systems offering all sorts of connectivity options, voice assistants and a wide range of apps such as Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music, CD players have become completely obsolete.

General Motors, which long resisted the urge to drop them from its Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans, has finally realized it.

GM Authority reports that the CD player option is being discontinued in the 2022 Chevy Express and 2022 GMC Savana, meaning that no GM passenger vehicle will be available with this relic going forward.

The only exceptions are found in the automaker’s commercial vehicle fleet, namely the Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD models, as well as Chevrolet Low Cab Forward trucks sold in the U.S.

Elsewhere in the industry, CD players remain in a few vehicles such as the Honda Pilot and Nissan Murano—admittedly two SUVs due for a complete redesign soon. Even the super-luxurious Lexus LC coupe, which starts at over $100,000, still has one.

So don’t feel too bad if you own a large CD collection, because you have some options left.
