Confirmed: Honda’s Light Trucks to Offer Rugged TrailSport Models

After filing an application to trademark the name “Trailsport” in the U.S. last year, Honda is now confirming that off-road-oriented models will join the lineup starting this fall.

The company said TrailSport marks “the next chapter in its rugged light truck direction,” hinting at more adventurous variants of the Pilot and Passport SUVs as well as the Ridgeline midsize pickup, which all share the same architecture.

Designed for modern-day explorers, the first models to incorporate the TrailSport treatment will feature rugged front and rear styling along with durable cladding, plus some technical upgrades.

Inside, look for exclusive interior touches such as high-contrast orange stitching and all-weather floor mats that are easier to clean—perfect for those who like to play in the mud.

Honda says that TrailSport off-road capability will further increase over the next few model years (and depending on the model) with upgrades like more aggressive tires, full-size spare tires, increased ground clearance, off-road tuned suspensions, underbody protection and expanded all-wheel drive system capabilities.

In recent months, other automakers have also launched sub-brands dedicated to off-road fun and adventure including GMC (AT4), Ford (Timberline) and Subaru (Wilderness).
