Report: GM Lost Over $5,000 On Every Saab Sold

According to an article in Swedish new provider Di, General Motors has lost $5,100 on every Saab sold in the last eight years.

Indicative of just how poorly managed the Saab brand has been while under the GM umbrella, that figure contributed to the huge $6 billion dollar loss General Motors has apparently taken over the whole Saab debacle. Perhaps worst of all is the price tag apparently attached to the brand’s sale: $900,000,000 US.

While no GM executive has had a chance to comment on the story, the general consensus is that the loss stems from GM’s continues investment in streamlining Saab’s involvement in the GM family; redesigning cars to incorporate shared platforms. However, for all their revisions, Saab sales have nearly come to a standstill, with the various Opel and Trailblazer platforms (to say nothing of the ridiculous Saaburu 9-2X mistake) alienating existing Saab buyers and doing little to lure new buyers from their established BMW and Mercedes Benz camps.
