10 Vehicles That Will Increase in Value in 2022 According to Hagerty

Classic car insurer Hagerty just released a list of models that have a good chance of increasing in value in 2022.

"Life is too short to drive boring cars, and our 2022 index shows which cars should be acquired now before they become less affordable," says Larry Webster, senior vice president of media and editorial content at Hagerty.

It's also an opportunity to make an investment that will pay off in the long run.

So here are the 10 used and collectible vehicles selected by Hagerty, covering model years 1963 through 2012. In each case, the value listed is for an example in good condition.

1965-1970 Cadillac DeVille (US$28,800)

Late 1960s Cadillacs are catching up with those made 10 years earlier. They are still quite affordable and still make heads turn.

1969-1974 Ferrari 246 Dino (US$365,800)

The Dino was a significant deviation from traditional Ferrari cars, with a V6 (bolted behind the driver) instead of the legendary V12. That's what makes it special even today.

1983-1997 Land Rover Defender (US$61,400)

The prices of the few older North American Defenders remaining on the market have increased significantly. The demand for these British off-roaders is steadily growing.

1979-1985 Mazda RX-7 (US$17,600)

The first generation of the RX-7 introduced Mazda's rotary engine to the world. It's still relatively easy to find good examples, but hurry up before it's too late.

Mercedes-Benz 230SL 1963-1967 (80 500 $)

The 230SL took the famous Mercedes SL in a new direction, adding luxury while retaining some of the sporting character of its predecessors.

1966-1967 Pontiac GTO ($US100,200)

The original muscle car will always be the Pontiac GTO. Price are starting to rise and the trend will continue into 2022, according to Hagerty.

1992-1995 Porsche 968 (US$38,000)

The ultimate evolution of the Porsche 944 and 924, the 968, is fun to drive on a daily basis with its hatchback and low fuel consumption on the highway.

Suzuki Samurai 1985-1995 (10 200 $US)

This little SUV from Suzuki weighs in at a mere 2,000 pounds, but it proves to be well built and very solid. Good condition examples are becoming hard to find, especially with the hardtop.

2008-2012 Tesla Roadster Sport (US$97,100)

As the first production car to use a lithium-ion battery, the Roadster becomes even more valuable with the emergence of electric vehicles. This one is built on a Lotus-derived chassis.
