Are you excited or not about Apple’s on-again, off-again car project? You should know that other tech giants are also exploring mobility solutions for the driverless future. At CES 2022, Sony unveiled a new prototype of its Vision-S electric vehicle and announced the founding of a company to explore jumping into the rapidly growing market.

Now it’s LG’s turn. The Korean multinational company presents a new autonomous vehicle concept called Vision Omnipod. About the size of a minibus, it’s hailed as the mobile extension of a personal living space.

The design is quite futuristic, and we like the uniquely styled wheels and silver/black two-tone exterior, but it’s still just a big box on wheels. The interior is much more fascinating.

The spacious, welcoming environment features lots of screens, including in the floor. This is LG we’re talking about, remember. It’s a lounge and a workplace at the same time, with a main captain’s chair and a giant display up front, a workout and entertainment area, plus various appliances adapted to cars such as a refridgerator.

The star of the Vision Omnipod goes by the name of Reah. It’s a personal assistant with artificial intelligence, guiding users through all their daily routines and tasks. The vehicle can also be turned into a theatre, a virtual shopping platform or a relaxation spot. In Sleep Mode, the lights are dimmed and the rear seats configure themselves into a bed. You can recreate a camping scene or imagine you’re in the middle of nature.

The Vision Omnipod concept benefits from the ThinQ ecosytem developed by LG, which consists in a variety of solutions assisting people on the go just like at home. While there are no plans to produce the vehicle, the company wants to have a say in how tomorrow’s driverless vehicles are designed and utilized. Before that, we might see LG’s full-size digital cockpit come alive in other cars.
