2024 Hyundai Sonata Emulates New Kona’s Sci-Fi Look

Both of Hyundai’s sedans will sport a fresh look for 2024. We’ve already shown you a glimpse of the Elantra, and now the automaker has revealed the design of the updated Sonata.

As you can see, it’s much more than a simple facelift. Inspired by the all-new 2024 Kona, the front fascia looks nothing like the Sonata we already know.

The LED daytime running lamps are just a thin strip of light that stretches the full width of the car. The headlamps, meanwhile, are seamlessly integrated into the new openings on each side of the grille, which is also redesigned.

A black garnish along the bottom of the body now connects the front and rear wheels, which get a new look of their own.

The rear-end treatment is completely new, as well, from the lower bumper all the way to the trunk lid spoiler. The most striking addition is the black-trimmed section that incorporates a similar horizontal light bar along with pixel-style brake lamps and turn signals.

Once again, the Sonata N Line stands out with a sportier appearance, featuring exclusive 19-inch alloys and a pair of dual exhaust tips.

A Different Environment Inside

The horizontal design carries over to the interior of the 2024 Sonata. Just look at the revised air vents in the lower part of the dashboard and, of course, the all-new panoramic curved display up top—a Hyundai first. The latter combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment display.

The new steering wheel comes with a shift-by-wire gear selector mounted on the steering column, freeing up a bit of space on the console for storage and for a longer armrest that allows the driver to rest their palm.

There’s a touch-type climate control interface on the centre stack, though Hyundai has wisely retained large dials to adjust the temperature (not to mention smaller ones above for audio). Material selection is said to be improved.

We don’t expect big changes, if any, under the hood. The four current options, including a 290-horsepower turbo-four (N Line) and 192-horsepower hybrid powertrain, will likely return. UPDATE: The turbocharged 1.6-litre engine producing 180 horsepower is no longer part of the plans.

Hyundai will officially introduce the 2024 Sonata this week at the Seoul Mobility Show in South Korea. More details about the North American-spec model will be shared in the coming months.
