Hyundai IONIQ 6 Secures Triple Win at 2023 World Car Awards

The 2023 World Car Awards were announced today during a ceremony held at the New York International Auto Show.

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 electric sedan managed to secure three awards including World Car Design of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year and the overall World Car of the Year award. Remember, Hyundai also notched up a triple win last year with the IONIQ 5 crossover.

For the past 18 years, the World Car Awards jury has included 105 automotive journalists from all over the world. This year, Canada is represented by The Globe and Mail’s Mark Richardson, Autonerve’s Regina Chan, as well as yours truly.

Other members of the jury come from Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

2023 World Urban Car of the Year

Winner: Citroen C3. Finalists: Ora Funky Cat/Haomao, Volkswagen Taigo/Nivus.

2023 World Performance Car of the Year

Winner: Kia EV6 GT. Finalists: Nissan Z, Toyota GR Corolla.

2023 World Luxury Car of the Year

Winner: Lucid Air. Finalists: BMW 7 Series, Genesis G90.

2023 World Car Design of the Year 

Winner: Hyundai IONIQ 6. Finalists: Land Rover Range Rover, Lucid Air.

2023 World Electric Vehicle of the Year

Winner: Hyundai IONIQ 6. Finalists: BMW i7, Lucid Air.

2023 World Car of the Year

Winner: Hyundai IONIQ 6. Finalists: BMW X1/iX1, Kia Niro.

Earlier this year, Hyundai’s Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center, SangYup Lee, earned the 2023 World Car Person of the Year award from the same jury.
