Cheaper Honda CR-V Hybrid Model Bolsters 2024 Lineup

Let’s face it, Honda kind of screwed up the launch of the first-ever CR-V Hybrid in Canada. Only the top-line Touring model offers the more fuel-efficient powertrain, and it costs a small fortune. Not good for customers who simply want to save money.

For 2024, however, the lineup expands with a slightly cheaper hybrid model, the first units of which will be arriving at dealerships this month.

In addition to the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine (190 hp, 179 lb-ft.), the CR-V EX-L can now be specified with Honda’s fourth-generation hybrid system (204 hp, 247 lb-ft.), which features a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine and a pair of electric motors, dropping combined fuel consumption from 8.4 L/100 km to 6.4 L/100 km.

We need to remind you that Honda aims for hybrid models to eventually represent half of CR-V sales.

The 2024 CR-V EX-L Hybrid starts at $46,275 plus freight and PDI. That’s $2,000 above the price of the gas-only equivalent, but $3,500 below the aforementioned CR-V Touring.

Standard content includes leather seats, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, front and rear parking sensors, a power tailgate and a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Black exterior accents, rectangular exhaust finishers and black 18-inch wheels add style. AWD is included, too, of course.

For those who prefer a more affordable 2024 CR-V, the entry-level LX-B 2WD model starts at $35,125. A premium of $2,800 is required for AWD and a few extra features. As for the popular CR-V Sport, it retails from $42,075.

At the end of the day, though, the CR-V is still more expensive than the vast majority of competitors, including its arch nemesis from Toyota.
