The new Tesla Model 3 was unveiled last September, boasting a (slightly) revised design, including new headlights, taillights and bumpers. Inside, the popular EV also benefited from a notable refresh, with, among other elements, a bigger centre screen (15.4 inches instead of 15), a second 8-inch monitor for rear-seat passengers, turn-signal controls integrated into the steering wheel, and other elements.

According to Tesla, soundproofing and material quality have also been improved, as have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The Car Guide will be sure to verify these claims with a proper test drive.

The new Tesla Model 3 is now available for order in North America, with Canadian prices starting at $53,990 for the rear-wheel drive base version, according to the automaker's online configurator. Tesla claims a range of 438 km and a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 6.1 seconds.

Five colours are available (gray, white, blue, black and red), but the only one standard one is gray. The other four are priced between $1,300 and $2,600, and a white interior will set you back a further $1,300 if you don't like the standard black interior. You can also get 19-inch wheels instead of the standard 18-inch rims, but they will cost you an extra $2,000 and shave 40 kilometres of range.

The second version available is the long-range, twin-motor Model 3 with all-wheel drive, which costs an extra $10,000 compared with the two-wheel-drive model. Range climbs to 548 km (502 with 19-inch wheels), and 0 to 100 km/h takes just 4.4 seconds. Options (colours, wheels and interior) are identical and sold at the same price as for the base model.

Both versions can be fitted with Autopilot ($7,800) or what Tesla calls “full self driving capability”. This more advanced system, which still requires driver supervision, will tack on an extra $16,000 to the bill.

There is no Performance model listed on Tesla's website at the moment, but a sportier Model 3 could make a comeback in the near future. In the meantime, Tesla says it can deliver between January and February 2024, which is a much shorter waiting time than the average electric vehicle.
