Each year, the Canadian Black Book publish a list of the car that retained the best value over the year. They evaluate cars that came out in 2010, and compare the initial MSRP with the average asking price today.
Sub-compact: Honda Fit. With a great reliability, sporty handling and a loading capacity putting some SUV to shame, the little Honda easily wins in this segment.
Mid-size: Subaru Outback. The Outback is an interesting compromise between a car and an SUV. It's got a reasonable fuel consumption, lots of storage and a good reliability. Us canadians are especially fond of its AWD system.
Sport cars : Dodge Challenger. While the direct competition (Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang) may be objectively better car, the Challenger is the number one choice for the muscle car fans, mainly because of it's good look. It also help that the SRT8 version is unreasonably powerful!
Small luxury car : BMW 1-Serie. The BMW 1-Serie wins against some stiff competition, like the Audi A4 and the Lexus IS. it's good looking, and the driving experience is perfect. No wonder those who bought one hold onto them!
Luxury sedan : Porsche Panamera. When it was launched, the Porsche Panamera was hated by the brand purist. They predicted the car would doom the company. According to the sale reports, they were wrong. The Panamera keeps its resale value high, putting it in front of the BMW 6;Serie and Lexus LS, among others.
SUV : Jeep Wrangler. You can't have a vehicle for each situation... Unless you buy a Wrangler! this swiss-army knife of a car also looks pretty much the same since the 50's, driving used version prices up.
Fullsize Luxury SUV : Hummer H2. You may be surprised to find a Hummer on this list, since the brand went under a couple years ago. But 2010 was the last year they made it, and with a limited distribution, they keep prices very close to the MSRP, 4 years ago...
Fourgonnettes : Honda Odyssey. They may have lost popularity in the United States, but Canadian families still loves minivans. The Honda Odyssey is among the best, with a solid construction, good reliability and decent performance.
Compact Pickup : Toyota Tacoma. Unchanged for years, the Tacoma soldiers on. with a bulletproof reliability and ample aftermarket support, the small Toyota pickup is a sure choice year after year.
Fullsize Pickup: Toyota Tundra. It may not be the most sold, the most powerful or even the prettiest of the bunch, but for the resale value, the Toyota Tundra is number one.
