The last cars equipped with pop-up headlights were produced 10 years ago. Here is a short history of this brilliant idea!
The first use of this type of headlights was on the 1936 Cord. The driver had to open them using a crank inside the car.
The 1938 Y-Job Concept from Buick was the first car to feature mechanical hidden headlights.

Since manufacturers were not allowed to use moulded headlights on their vehicles in the 1960's, they started covering their round sealed beams to give them better aerodynamics. Here, a 1963 Corvette.

1967 Cadillac Eldorado
1969 Dodge Charger

1970 Alfa Romeo Montreal
1971 De Tomaso Pantera
1976 Aston Martin Lagonda

In the eighties, the style saw a rise in popularity, especially with the Japanese manufacturers. Here is a 1984 Honda Prelude.

1987 Toyota Corolla Trueno
1987 Ferrari F40
