Top 10 French cars we remember

Some of the French carmakers are talking about making a comeback to North America. As far as we’re concerned, we’d love to see them prosper on our side of the pond. This Top 10 looks back on some of our favourite French cars of the past: Citroën 2CV: Simple, robust and easy to fix. Built between 1948 and 1990.
Citroën Traction Avant: A car that pioneered FWD, unibody construction and the four-wheel independent suspension.
Citroën DS: At the time, a futuristic car with an aerodynamic shape and a self-levelling hydraulic suspension.
Peugeot 205: This is the car that saved the brand in the early 80s. Also, 205 GTI!
Peugeot 405: One of the last Pugs sold in North America. And how about that Pininfarina styled body?
Peugeot 504: A car that excelled in rough terrain and displayed exceptional reliability.
Renault Alpine A110: Not exactly a Renault as it was built by Alpine using many Renault parts. Also, very sexy.
Renault Clio: One of the best-selling cars in Europe. Many special versions including the Williams and the V6.
Renault 4: Considered the first mass-produced hatchback and built in response to the 2CV.
Renault 5: Sold as LeCar in North America, the R5 also benefitted from many cool versions such as the Turbo and the Gordini.
