10- Honda Accord
During the first six months of 2017, the Accord moved ahead of the Toyota Camry as the only midsize car in the list. However, the Camry is only about 600 units away from the Accord, so we never know… things can change quickly in the next half of the year, with the arrival of an all-new generation model in both cases.

Sales: 7406 units

9- Nissan Sentra
It’s probably the most subtle car on the market, the only we never spot on the road. And yet, the compact sedan is everywhere. The Nissan Sentra managed to grab a spot on the Top 10 list in this first half of 2017, which ranked 11th overall in 2016.

Sales: 8241 units

8- Volkswagen Jetta
This compact sedan will soon get a redesign, but in the meantime, it keeps selling in interesting quantities. The Jetta draws buyers with its affordable price, its engaging drive and its spacious cabin. So far in 2017, it couldn’t surpass its more expensive sister, the Volkswagen Golf.

Sales: 8502 units

7-Kia Forte
Finishing in the Top 15 in 2016, the Forte saw its sales numbers rise significantly during the first half of 2017. Enough to end up in seventh place of this list. The Forte is offered in sedan, coupe and five-door hatchback body styles. Together, the Sentra and the Forte pushed the Ford Focus and the Hyundai Accent off this Top 10 list.

Sales: 8635 units

6- Volkswagen Golf
Despite the retirement of the TDI engine, the Golf pursues its career with fuel-efficient gasoline powertrains and continues to rack up sales thanks to its wide variety of trim levels and body styles. And let’s not forget the performance-infused Golf GTI and Golf R. For the record, if we combined sales of the Golf and the Jetta, they would rank fourth in this list.

Sales: 10,874 units

5- Mazda3
Sales of Mazda’s compact car dropped during the last couple of years, but seem to have stabilised recently. Despite that, it fall one spot compared to the overall ranking of 2016. Stylish and dynamic, the Mazda3 continues to draw buyers looking for an affordable compact with a touch of luxury.

4- Chevrolet Cruze
The arrival of a hatchback version no doubt helped the Cruze climb up to fourth place. Its sales are up, and a new diesel engine is now available for long-distance drivers.

Sales: 15,464 units

3- Hyundai Elantra
Despite a drop in sales, the Elantra kept its spot on the podium of the best-selling cars in Canada. It has a considerable lead over the fourth-place Cruze, though. A newly redesigned five-door Elantra GT just hit the Canadian market, which should help.

Sales: 23,722 units

2- Toyota Corolla
The Corolla, now offered in sedan as well as in five-door hatchback body styles, the latter called the Corolla iM, justly deserves its second place on this Top 10 list. Actually, the Corolla hasn’t had anything to prove for a long time now, and still draws plenty of buyers. In addition, it’s assembled right here in Canada.

Sales: 28,354 units

1- Honda Civic
Unbeatable? It’s possible. However, let’s keep in mind that the Civic remains a spacious, comfortable and reliable car, despite some misfires in regards to the car’s infotainment system. The introduction of a turbocharged engine didn’t cool down sales, quite the contrary. And the addition of a five-door hatchback, in addition to the coupe and sedan body styles, solidifies the Civic’s supremacy in Canada. On top of all that, it’s build here in Canada.
