Top 10 Best-selling Utility Vehicles in Canada, First Half of 2017

10- Hyundai Tucson
Sales are up for the compact Tucson, to the point where it bumped its bigger brother Santa Fe off the top 10 list so far in 2017. With a choice of two fuel-efficient powertrains and plenty of features for the price, the Hyundai Tucson is undoubtedly a popular choice.

Sales: 15,205 units

9- Nissan Rogue
Nissan’s compact SUV is hanging on to its ninth place on the list, which is exactly where it landed overall in 2016. The Rogue aims to please with dynamic styling, a fuel-efficient powertrain and surprisingly good interior fit and finish.

Sales: 22,618 units

8- Ford Escape
The Escape was the country’s best-selling SUV for many, many years. However, its competitors have stepped up their game and pushed the Ford down the top 10 list. Still, holding on to eighth place—third among SUVs—is nothing to be ashamed of, and sales are actually up compared to the first half of 2016.

Sales: 23,443 units

7- Honda CR-V
Like the Escape, the CR-V is currently racking up more sales than it did during the first six months of 2016. That means buyers are digging the 2017 Honda CR-V’s new look and new turbocharged engine. A reputation of reliability and strong resale value don’t hurt, either.

Sales: 23,833 units

6- Toyota RAV4
The RAV4 currently stands as Canada’s most popular sport utility vehicle, although its modest lead over the CR-V and Escape isn’t something to brag about. What’s surprising is that the RAV4 hasn’t changed significantly since 2013, but Toyota is giving it minor improvements every year, and consumers have responded.

Sales: 25,295 units

5- Dodge Grand Caravan
Hanging on for its life since the Chrysler Pacifica hit the streets, the Grand Caravan soldiers on unchanged, but keeps piling on the manufacturer’s rebates to continue attracting families who need space, but who are on a tight budget. However, it slipped one spot on the top 10 list that’s dominated by pickup trucks.

Sales: 26,394 units

4- Chevrolet Silverado
In Canada, the Silverado isn’t quite as popular as its GMC Sierra cousin, which is ironic, because in the United States, it’s the other way around. With fuel-efficient powertrains and a wide selection of trim levels and appearance packages, the Silverado has what it takes to sell in big numbers.

Sales: 27,887 units

3- GMC Sierra
There isn’t much difference between a Sierra and a Silverado, and since they’re sold on the same showroom floors in Canada, consumers might have a hard time deciding which one they’d prefer. Still, it seems as though the GMC’s rugged looks strike a chord with Canadians. If we combined sales of the Silverado and the Sierra, the GM cousins would take second place on the top 10 list. Barely.

Sales: 31,178 units

2- Ram Pickup
The Ram has barely changed since 2009, and yet it still continues to sell in impressive quantities. Thank the truck’s arguably timeless design that still looks good eight years later, in addition to many improvements to the Ram’s powertrains as well as numerous special-edition variants to keep it fresh. Still, it can only dream of knocking off the best-selling vehicle on this top 10 list.

Sales: 57,923 units

1- Ford F-Series
No surprise here. The F-150 and Super Duty are still on a roll, beating out its rivals by a wide margin. Buyers trusted Ford’s decision to install aluminum body panels on their pickups, and so far, sales are rising steadily every month and every year.
