Spring is here, and you feel like getting yourself a convertible to enjoy the summer months? You’re in luck, because as we speak, dealerships are filling their inventory with topless cars and trucks. Here are a few of the most interesting ones this year.

2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante
It’s the most expensive car in this list, but the DB11 is wonderfully beautiful, powerful and exclusive. Equipped with a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8, the DB11 Volante boasts 503 horsepower and 498 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to blast from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.

2018 Audi A3 Cabriolet
The most-affordable model in Audi’s Canadian lineup is the A3, and it’s available as a convertible. Only one powertrain is on offer, a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder that develops 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. However, all-wheel drive is standard, allowing us to drive confidently during all four seasons.

2018 Fiat 500c
For the 2018 model year, the little 500 is equipped as standard with a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine that provides 135 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. It’s the lowest-priced convertible on the Canadian market, and it’s soooo cute. And let’s not forget the sporty Abarth variant with its 160 horsepower (157 with the automatic gearbox) and its diabolic exhaust sound.

2018 Ford Mustang Convertible
Benefitting from a styling revision and some technological novelties, the Mustang is a must for summertime. Available this year with a 310-horsepower, turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, or a 460-horsepower, 5.0-litre V8 in GT trim, the convertible version of the Mustang provides hair-raising performance. If we’re patient, the 2019 model will also offer a California Special edition with a unique look and the GT’s V8 engine.

2018 Jaguar F-TYPE Convertible 2018
This British sports car has been available on our market for a few years now, but its powertrain choices are more varied than ever, and its price is—a little—more accessible. It can be equipped with a 296-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-litre four, but also a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 (340 or 380 horsepower), a supercharged V8 with 550 horsepower or, in SVR trim, a 575-horsepower V8. An all-wheel drivetrain is also offered for confronting the joys of winter.

2018 Jeep Wrangler JL
Sports cars and luxury cars are available in a convertible body style, but so are SUVs, although they’re admittedly pretty rare. The Jeep Wrangler is by far the most famous, and it just benefitted from a complete redesign without straying away from the original recipe. Its look is unmistakably familiar—keeping with tradition—and still boasts undeniable off-road capabilities, but aside from its 285-horsepower, 3.6-litre V6, the Wrangler can be equipped with a 270-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.

2018 Mazda MX-5
This affordable roadster is a pure sports car, blessed with excellent road manners. The MX-5 can be equipped with a manual soft top or, on the MX-5 RF, a power-retractable hard top. Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine develops 155 horsepower, providing good performance and interesting fuel economy.

2018 Nissan 370Z Roadster
It’s sexy, it’s sporty and it’s relatively affordable. The 370Z Roadster boasts a comfortable cockpit for two, enhanced with heated and ventilated leather seats, under a power-folding soft top that’s double-lined to keep noise and heat out of the car. The 370Z is equipped with a raging 3.7-litre V6 that develops 332 horsepower, matched to either a manual or an automatic transmission.

2018 Porsche 911 Cabriolet
Ah, the 911. The legendary sports car. As always, it’s available as a convertible, and its top can be raised or lowered in a few seconds, even while the car is travelling at low speeds. Two powertrains are available in a multitude of outputs, including a twin-turbo, 3.0-litre flat-six (370, 420 or 450 horsepower) and a twin-turbo, 3.8-litre flat-six (540 and 580 horsepower). The 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is the fastest, able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

2018 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
The charming Beetle is well equipped and affordable, and for 2018, it received a new turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 174 horsepower and boasts improved fuel economy compared to the previous powertrain. The Beetle Convertible is available in base Trendline, retro-styled Coast and robust-looking Dune. The Beetle will soon leave the market, so if it’s the convertible you need, you shouldn’t wait too long.
