We’re shopping for a new vehicle and an all-wheel drivetrain seems interesting for confidently confronting our harsh winters? However, our budget is limited and we have to choose an affordable vehicle? Here are the least expensive on the Canadian market for 2019.

10- Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
The only wagon in this list, the base Trendline trim of the Golf SportWagen can be equipped with a manual transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive for a starting MSRP of $25,695, before freight and delivery charges. With an automatic transmission, the price starts at $27,095.

9- Honda HR-V
The HR-V is one of several subcompact crossover vehicles that landed on this top 10 list. In base LX trim with an automatic transmission, it starts at $25,490 before freight and delivery charges.

8- Chevrolet Trax
Chevy’s subcompact crossover can be equipped with all-wheel drive in base LS trim. It starts at $25,000 before freight and delivery charges.

7- Subaru Legacy
The Legacy is the only one of three cars in this list—the rest are crossovers—and the only midsize sedan of the bunch. In 2.5i trim with an automatic transmission, the Legacy starts at $24,995 before freight and delivery charges. Its unchanged base price for 2019 allowed it to climb a spot on this list.

6- Nissan Qashqai
Nissan’s popular subcompact crossover can be ordered with AWD and an automatic transmission starting at $24,898 in base S trim, before freight and delivery charges. It dropped a spot on this list in 2019 because of a price increase.

5- Ford EcoSport
Now in its second model year on the Canadian market, the EcoSport subcompact crossover barely climbed ahead of the Nissan Qashqai. The EcoSport S trim with AWD and an automatic transmission is listed at $24,599 before freight and delivery charges.

4- Mazda CX-3
Mazda’s subcompact crossover is the fourth most affordable vehicle in Canada with AWD. The CX-3 GX AWD with a mandatory automatic transmission starts at $24,095 before freight and delivery charges. Its price increase for the 2019 model year made it slip one rank on this list.

3- Subaru Crosstrek
Based on the same platform as the Subaru Impreza, the Crosstrek boasts standard all-wheel drive and a more rugged appearance. The base Crosstrek Convenience with a manual transmission starts at $23,695 before freight and delivery charges, or at $24,995 with the optional automatic transmission. The Crosstrek’s price is unchanged compared to the 2018 model, allowing it to climb one spot on this list.

2- Hyundai Kona
The Kona subcompact SUV is the second most-affordable vehicle in Canada with an all-wheel drivetrain. It starts at $22,999 before freight and delivery charges in base Preferred trim, and includes the 147-horsepower, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.

1- Subaru Impreza
Once again, the Impreza is Canada’s least-expensive vehicle that’s equipped with all-wheel drive, and it’s standard in every trim level. The base Convenience sedan with a manual transmission starts at $19,995 before freight and delivery charges. With an automatic transmission, the price is $21,295. The five-door Impreza costs $900 more in both cases.
