There were many unveilings at the 2019 New York Auto Show. Here are those that particularly caught the attention of our team at The Car Guide.

Volkswagen Tarok Concept
Following its world premiere in Sao Paolo last November, the Tarok concept made its North American debut in the Big Apple. This small pickup, which is built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, has a payload rating of 2,271 pounds. Not bad at all for a four-foot-long cargo bed!

Toyota Highlander
The 2020 model year marks the launch of the fourth-generation Toyota Highlander. Customers will be able to choose from a 3.5-litre V6 and a hybrid powertrain that’s more fuel-efficient than in previous editions. Inside, look for seven- and eight-passenger configurations.

Hyundai Venue
A tad smaller than the Kona, the brand new Venue becomes the seventh member in Hyundai’s SUV/CUV lineup. Powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, it will directly rival the Nissan Kicks. Expect to see it in showrooms by the end of 2019.

Lincoln Corsair
Lincoln chose New York to unveil the all-new Corsair, a five-passenger compact vehicle that will replace the MKC in the brand’s refreshed SUV lineup. Two turbocharged four-cylinder engines are available.

Genesis Mint Concept
Genesis had a little surprise in store for the New York Auto Show this year. The Mint Concept is a fully electric vehicle that’s all about styling and emotions. No technical specifications were provided. Don’t you just love those lines?

Subaru Outback
For 2020, the Outback follows the lead of the Legacy sedan and presents a brand new generation. In addition to its standard 2.5-litre flat-four engine, the 2020 Outback is available with a new turbocharged 2.4-litre mill rated at 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet.

Mazda CX-5 Diesel
After a ridiculously long wait, the Mazda CX-5 Diesel is finally set to go on sale in Canada. The 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D engine under the hood produces 168 horsepower along with an impressive 290 pound-feet of torque. Combined city-highway fuel economy is rated at 8.5 L/100 km. Look for it in showrooms this summer.

Kia HabaNiro
Kia took advantage of the huge media attention at the New York Auto show to introduce an extremely futuristic-looking electric crossover concept. Featuring butterfly wing doors and Level 5 autonomy, the HabaNiro also provides a range of 480 kilometres.

Audi TT RS
To celebrate its 50 years of operations in North America, Audi unveiled the TT RS in New York. Under the hood of this high-performance coupe is a 2.5-litre five-cylinder powerplant that can take you from 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. Yeah.

Porsche 911 Speedster
As part of its 70th anniversary celebration last year, Porsche created a new 911 Speedster concept. The reaction was so positive that the German automaker turned it into a production model. Boasting a 4.0-litre flat-six engine with a 9,000-rpm redline, only 1,948 units will be built. Pricing in Canada starts at $312,500.
